Guide Michelin 2024

Berlin: CODA

Reaktion Zwei Sterne

For the fifth time in a row: two stars for René Frank's CODA in Berlin

  • The CODA has been awarded 2 Michelin stars for the fifth time in a row. It is the only fine dining restaurant in Germany whose multi-award-winning cuisine is inspired by desserts.
  • Star chef René Frank ("World's Best Pastry Chef 2022") turns traditional fine dining categories on their head with his restaurant concept and inspires with a progressive menu that does not fit traditional labels.
  • In times of numerous closures in the catering industry, CODA is looking to the future with great confidence.

René Frank's Berlin restaurant has been adorned with the red Michelin badge since 2019 and yesterday the CODA was awarded 2 stars for the fifth time in a row. This year, the joy and gratitude is particularly great. After all, upscale gastronomy seems to be in crisis in the capital in particular and many a starred address has already had to announce its closure.

"This year's award and renewed recognition underlines the fact that we have a firm place in the starred gastronomy scene. And I myself am optimistic about the future," says René Frank. "My team and I have no intention of resting on our laurels. Nowadays, it is more important than ever to continually surprise and inspire guests with innovative menus. We want to show what fine dining can be in 2024 - far from the beaten track."

The CODA in Berlin Neukölln stands for progressive, non-conformist cuisine that doesn't fit into any restaurant mould. The menu is made up of dishes that are inspired by desserts but cannot be labelled as such. "Sweet" merges with savoury and traditional flavour categories no longer apply to Frank. "Anyone who comes to CODA should be open to discovering something really new. We deliberately question conventional concepts and have emancipated ourselves from the usual menu structure of starter, main course - possibly with a piece of meat on the plate - and dessert. We think in other dimensions and have freed ourselves from conventional approaches."

What began as a dessert bar in 2016 has transformed over the years into a place where you can immerse yourself in a different world of flavours for several hours. 15 servings, coordinated pairing drinks as part of individual courses and a finely selected wine list await international visitors to Berlin and local gourmets alike. The star menu is available from €264. Opening hours Tue - Sat from 19:00h.
