A portrait of three-star chef Christian Bau on television and in the ARD media library on 11 April

SAARBRÜCKEN. Saarländischer Rundfunk will be showing a 45-minute television portrait of three-star chef Christian Bau next Thursday. The author is Thomas Braml, who accompanied him with his camera. The film gives an insight into Christian Bau's work and describes him in his role as a chef and a person. Among other things, Thomas Braml filmed Christian Bau cooking with his team and star chefs Max Strohe and Martin Fauster at the German embassy in Paris on the occasion of the Walter Scheel Medal being awarded to Alain Ducasse. For the portrait, interviews were conducted with Alain Ducasse, chef of the century Eckart Witzigmann, the former head of the German edition of Gault&Millau Christoph Wirtz, restaurateur Fritz Keller and Christian Bau's family, among others.

Christian Bau has been head chef at Victor's Fine Dining in Perl-Nennig since 1998. In November of the same year, he was awarded his first Michelin star, followed by a second in 1999 and a third in 2005 - making him the youngest chef in Germany to receive this honour at the time. He is now one of the current three-star chefs in Germany who has held the rating the longest.  After receiving the third star, he decided to completely change his style of cooking. Since then, he has dedicated himself to Japanese cuisine and combines classic French haute cuisine with Asian high cuisine, Kaiseki cuisine. This has also earned him public recognition from restaurant guides. He has received numerous awards, including the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany as a Master of Culinary Culture and Culinary Ambassador.

After the linear broadcast, the programme will also be available in the ARD Mediathek as part of the Sender series Saarthema. Saarländischer Rundfunk will also broadcast a radio feature on 14 April at 12.30 pm on SR3 with other focal points, such as a radio-friendly insight into Christian Bau's current menu.
