Steinheuers Restaurant, Bad Neuenahr-Heppingen
"This menu was only partially convincing. Christian Binder continues the classic line of Hans Stefan Steinheuer. His dishes are carefully prepared, but avoid rough edges. That doesn't have to be a flaw, but I would like to see one or two surprises. As it is, little remains in the memory after a short time. Nevertheless, our dinner group had an enjoyable evening. This was partly due to the impressive wine list, which offered us some beautiful bottles to accompany our menus. But of course the service also played a big part. In addition to Désirée and Gabriele Steinheuer, who are very present, a young colleague, who also provided very competent wine advice, guided us through the evening excellently. Of course, you have certain expectations when you visit a restaurant with this great reputation and its awards. In view of the very ambitious menu price, I have to say that these expectations were not met. I could not recognise the two-star level of many of the dishes. It will therefore be interesting to see how Christian Binder's cooking style continues to develop and whether he is able to develop his own clear characterisation that justifies the ratings in the long term."
