A highly anticipated duel awaits viewers on 14 April at 20:15: In the new episode of Kitchen Impossible, Tim Mälzer faces off against the chef of the year 2023, Miguel Marques. This episode was filmed at the final of the well-known live competition "Chef of the Year" in mid-November 2023 at the Kameha Grand in Bonn. Restaurant-Ranglisten.de had accompanied the final in the podcast and gives additional insights into the challenge for Tim Mälzer and the final of the competition.

The background story

On 14 November 2023, the high-profile final of the renowned live competition "Chef of the Year" took place, with five outstanding professional chefs and one female chef competing for the coveted title. This event, which has been known as one of the most important career springboards for gastronomy professionals since 2011, is organised by Roika Solutions GmbH under the management of Nuria Roig and Christian Kamm.

What hardly anyone knew at the time, however, was that the winner of the competition would not only take home the title and €5,000 in prize money, but would also have the chance to appear as an original chef on the hit TV programme Kitchen Impossible.

On the day of the event, the surprise was revealed: Tim Mälzer was involved in the competition as an honorary judge. Unaware of the task ahead, he took his place at the jury table alongside former contestants from previous seasons of Kitchen Impossible, which brought together a total of 25 Michelin stars.

The tension reached its peak at the awards ceremony when Tim Mälzer was surprised with the black box and his challenge was announced: He was to recreate the main course of the winner Miguel Marques, who was then head chef at the two-star restaurant Alois, and present it to the competition jury.

Behind the scenes: The project was a long time in the planning

Giuseppina Goduto (producer of "Kitchen Impossible" at EndemolShine Germany) says: "It took several years from the initial idea to the realisation. This challenge was a project of the heart and a special challenge for everyone involved, which required meticulous preparation and coordination. I'm sure our viewers will be just as thrilled with the result as we are."

Nuria Roig, Managing Director of Roika Solutions GmbH, adds: "The collaboration with Kitchen Impossible was an outstanding project, and it was a special highlight for our top candidates to present themselves in one of the most successful TV formats in Germany. The passion of the Kitchen Impossible team is unrivalled, and that's exactly why this collaboration was such a perfect fit."

Managing Director Christian Kamm emphasises: "It was incredibly exciting and enriching to unite these two worlds. This collaboration has enabled us to raise the profile of gastronomy and the culinary profession even further and offer our talents an even bigger stage!"

The episode will be broadcast on 14 April at 20:15 on Vox.
