HOF BEI SALZBURG Located on the shores of the picturesque turquoise-blue Lake Fuschl, Rosewood Schloss Fuschl officially opened its doors on 1 July. It is the second location of Rosewood Hotels & Resorts in Austria following the opening of Rosewood Vienna in 2022. The carefully restored 15th century castle in the heart of the Austrian Alps combines traditional elegance, timeless luxury and natural beauty. It also offers all modern amenities for an unrivalled experience.

The resort, with a total of 98 stylishly furnished guest rooms, including 42 exclusive suites and six cosy chalets, was designed as an authentic alpine retreat and offers discerning travellers superior comfort. As the gateway to the Austrian Salzkammergut region, Rosewood Schloss Fuschl offers a diverse programme of varied outdoor activities. The programme ranges from picturesque boat trips on the lake and forest hikes with herb experts to artisan and culinary pleasure tours in Salzburg. The personalised experiences are rounded off by the Asaya® Spa. Individually tailored wellness programmes based on the Austrian wellness philosophy and a lake club with direct access to the water ensure an incomparable stay.

A symphony of design and history

Rosewood Schloss Fuschl combines elegance and tradition with its masterfully restored historic tower, stylishly modernised guest rooms, inviting lobby and magnificent public areas. Built back in 1461 as a hunting lodge for the Salzburg prince archbishops, it served as a venue for legendary hunts and royal gatherings for centuries. Over the years, the estate has played host to an illustrious society, including famous film stars such as Romy Schneider, who shot several scenes of the legendary Sissi film trilogy here, as well as many other internationally renowned personalities. Since its transformation into a luxury hotel in 1947, the estate has attracted worldwide attention for its unrivalled beauty. As Rosewood Schloss Fuschl, the castle now shines in new splendour, with every design element paying homage to the rich history and majestic nature of the surrounding mountain region. Rosewood relies on Sense of Place® to do justice to the unique history, culture and atmosphere of each location. The entire resort is inspired by the local flora and fauna. The public areas, including the Asaya® Spa and guest rooms, were designed by international design firm G.A Group. The main inspiration for the design was the variety of colours that characterise each season and are reflected in every detail of the rooms. The guest rooms and suites also feature hand-painted minibars designed by Austrian artist Marie Hartig, whose work was inspired by the surrounding nature. In this way, tradition and modern luxury merge harmoniously. The Heritage suites and Heritage rooms in the historic tower as well as the chalets were designed by Austrian architects Bauer Stahl ZT GmbH.

Immerse yourself in Austrian cuisine

From alpine breakfasts to lunches and dinners with regional products to afternoon tea, Rosewood Schloss Fuschl offers a varied gastronomic experience and selection. The products come from nearby lakes and farms as well as from regional suppliers. The six dining areas, including the bar, were designed by the Munich-based interior design studio DiPPOLD Interior Design Studio. The crown jewel of the culinary offering is the castle restaurant with classics and innovative dishes such as Styrian mountain prawns with Blunzn Tascherln and sauerkraut beurre blanc. The menu celebrates the diversity of flavours of the region and is complemented by a carefully curated selection of over 1,400 Austrian and international wines and rarities that have been collected in the Schloss Fuschl wine cellar for decades. The Schloss Bar, painted by artist Marie Hartig, offers guests a central location for a wide selection of classic and innovative cocktails. Guests can relax and enjoy a drink by the historic wooden fireplace, which dates back to the 15th century and was recently restored by Rosewood Schloss Fuschl. The intimate Whisky Room is an extension of the Schloss Bar and, with its stately design, offers a retreat for smaller and private gatherings. Here, guests can enjoy an extensive selection of spirits, schnapps and wines as well as bar snacks. The Sisi Tea Salon, a tribute to the hotel's history as the setting for the legendary Sissi film trilogy, is an oasis of calm with its elegant design and exudes an atmosphere of warmth and hospitality. Guests can indulge in light meals throughout the day. This is accompanied by creative and delicious cakes and chocolates as well as afternoon tea - lovingly prepared by Pastry Chef Jeremie Baessler.

Against the backdrop of Lake Fuschl, the lakeside terrace welcomes guests throughout the day in a relaxed atmosphere - perfect for a cosy lunch or dinner at sunset. Located directly on the water, the See Club brings the spirit of a luxurious beach club to the Austrian Alps and invites its guests to spend cosy days and unforgettable evenings by the lake. Relaxation is particularly good in the luxurious cabanas, which are open to both hotel guests and external visitors. The menu includes light Mediterranean-style dishes. For wine lovers, walkers and hikers, the rustic vinotheque and its terrace offer a cosy meeting place to enjoy a traditional Austrian snack. The focus is on regional products, including a careful selection of Austrian wines. Guests can experience authentic Austrian delights with local specialities.

"Our goal is to preserve the heritage of Rosewood Schloss Fuschl while enriching our Sense of Place™ philosophy with an unparalleled programme and valuable partnerships," says Radha Arora, President of Rosewood Hotels & Resorts®. "At Rosewood, we are committed to creating experiences that not only celebrate the rich history of this iconic destination, but also invite our guests to embark on a journey of discovery and connection. This underscores our commitment to honouring tradition while fostering innovation to ensure that every moment at Rosewood Schloss Fuschl is as memorable as it is authentic."

A feeling of tranquillity and luxury greets every guest who enters the Asaya® Spa at Rosewood Schloss Fuschl. The 1,500 square metre spa embodies Rosewood's claim to offer holistic wellness and encompasses the Rosewood pillars of wellness - mental balance, fitness and nutrition, physiotherapy, skin health and social commitment. Asaya® Spa offers a range of personalised wellness experiences and features indoor and outdoor pools, three saunas and a steam room, as well as eight carefully designed treatment rooms. The fitness centre, equipped with Technogym equipment, invites guests to enjoy revitalising workouts. A hairdressing salon also offers professional services to enhance your sense of well-being. For guests looking to improve their holistic wellbeing, Rosewood Schloss Fuschl offers carefully curated two- to three-day retreats focusing on biohacking, healthy ageing, body treatments, detoxification and sleep optimisation.

"Rosewood Schloss Fuschl is more than just a castle - it is the gateway to Austria's breathtaking Salzkammergut region. From the moment guests arrive, they are enveloped in the timeless charm of this royal Salzburg retreat. Our design pays homage to the rich heritage of the region, with suites that reflect the colours of the seasons and public spaces adorned with carefully restored historical elements," says Sascha Hemmann, Managing Director of Rosewood Schloss Fuschl. "We pride ourselves on working with local artisans and nurturing traditions such as craftsmanship and herbalism to provide our guests with an unforgettable experience. And with our commitment to sustainability, we are not only preserving history but also building a better future."

Alpine experiences and activities at any time of year

Whether exclusive guided tours through various museums, private concerts, balloon rides over the lake region or a visit to a traditional costume atelier with a focus on authentic Austrian costume, every Rosewood Schloss Fuschl experience invites you to discover the magic of Salzburg and the Salzkammergut. The sprawling resort offers a variety of activities, including guided hikes in the mountains and other excursions in the region. Local master fisherman Gerhard Langmeier has been running the neighbouring Schloss Fuschl fishery since 1987, where you can stop for a bite to eat and enjoy a smoked fish snack. Against the wintry backdrop of the Austrian Alps, guests can also experience regional traditions during the cold and contemplative season - from winter hikes to visits to the regional Christmas markets.

Thanks to its collaboration with renowned galleries and local artisans, Rosewood Schloss Fuschl offers its guests exclusive access to the contemporary art world through private guided tours. In addition, the resort invites guests to discover the rich cultural heritage of the Salzkammergut through a unique regional programme. One highlight is a trip to the Austrian umbrella atelier, where guests are given exclusive access to the Kirchtag umbrella workshop, founded in 1903.

The resort sources most of its ingredients and materials from within a radius of less than 100 kilometres. This not only guarantees the freshness of the products, but also reduces CO₂ emissions thanks to shorter transport routes, thus minimising the ecological footprint. Thanks to Schloss Fuschl's own bee colony, not only is local honey produced, but pollination of the surrounding flora is also promoted, which contributes to the health of the entire ecosystem. By utilising the natural thermal properties of the lake, Rosewood Schloss Fuschl is also less reliant on conventional heating and cooling methods. This saves energy and maintains the delicate balance of the aquatic ecosystem.
